The VB Nagar police have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly uploading obscene photographs of his female friend on the Internet using her mobile phone. The arrested person had allegedly also taken the victim’s gold rings and earrings. The police are now on the lookout for his aide.
The arrested person has been identified as Micheal Gonsalvis, a resident of Ghatkopar, while his associate, who is wanted in the case, is John Pereira.
The police said the 24-year old victim is a resident of Kurla west and is employed at a private firm in Vikhroli. Gonsalvis and the victim used to study in the same school, and became close friends over the past few years.
As per the complaint, Gonsalvis had taken her gold rings and earrings in May, saying he was in need of money. A few months ago, he asked her for money to go to Singapore for some work.
“Their friendship was going through a rough patch, and in May this year, Gonsalvis allegedly took the victim’s mobile phone, assuring her that he would return it soon. A few days later, her colleague told her that someone had uploaded an objectionable photograph of her on a social networking site, through her account,” said an officer from VB Nagar police station, adding, “Suspecting that Gonsalvis could be behind this, she lodged a police complaint.”
He added Gonsalvis was arrested recently and the victim’s mobile phone was seized from his residence. “Gonsalvis was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act for criminal breach of trust and uploading objectionable content on the Internet. He has been remanded in judicial custody till August 19. We are also on the lookout for his friend Pereira, who allegedly helped him,” the officer said.
