Sena-BJP, MNS train guns on Cong over J&K border killings

The Shiv Sena-BJP and the MNS seem to have donned battle gear to take on the Congress following the killing of five soldiers in an ambush by Pakistani intruders along the LoC in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

Shiv Sena workers on Wednesday held demonstrations in Mulund and Ghatkopar and demanded strong action against Pakistan.

The Shiv Sena urged the Centre to launch a war on Pakistan following the Poonch incident.

On Thursday, the Shiv Sena mouthpiece, Saamna, said in an editorial: “We say that it is time to teach Pakistan the lesson of its life. It is time to take revenge and begin a war (against Pakistan). It is time to awaken the country’s self-respect. Our national leaders should stop playing with that toy called Twitter… The martyrdom of five Indian soldiers is not child’s play. We don’t need a tweet to tell us that the country is not secured and that Pakistan has become too big for its boots. Soldiers are preparing for war, leaders, too, should be ready and they should prepare the countrymen. War is inevitable now.”

MNS vice-president Nayan Kadam on Thursday lambasted the Centre for failing to protect the country’s borders.

“UPA doesn’t have an iota of courage or determination to take on Pakistan,” he said. “Our soldiers are dying like flies.”

The BJP city unit is expected to meet on Monday to decide its strategy to take on the Congress after the Centre’s flip-flop on the Poonch incident.

The Shiv Sena’s cinema wing demanded a ban on Pakistani artists participating in reality TV shows.

Home minister R R Patil said in Kolhapur that the state government had little role to play in the matter of Pakistani artists.

“Those who are keen on this issue should take up the matter with the Centre,” he said. “The final authority on whether to allow Pakistani artists in India or not lies with the Centre.”

The Shiv Sena held anti-Congress protests in Kolhapur.

All Kolhapur MLAs decided to donate a month’s salary to the family of Kundalik Mane, one of the five slain soldiers. Key leaders from parties in the state attended Mane’s funeral in his hometown in Kolhapur.
