A day after the charred body of a woman was found in Powai, police on Tuesday arrested her friend, who had allegedly killed her in a fit of rage after she rejected his romantic advances.
The deceased was identified as Vibhuti Sampat (28), a resident of Amrut Nagar in Ghatkopar who worked with an interior designing firm in Goregaon.
“After making enquiries with her friends, we zeroed in on Vibhuti Sampat (34), who also takes up interior designing jobs from his office-cum-home in Juhu. We learned that Vibhuti had met Baruah after work,” said a Crime Branch officer. Baruah allegedly confessed to have killed Vibhuti at his residence.
“On Sunday, Baruah proposed her, but she turned it down. This led to an argument after which he killed her,” said the officer.
