Several residents of Powai and Hiranandani were inconvenienced due to disruption in the supply of piped cooking gas late on Wednesday and Thursday.
Mahanagar Gas Ltd, which supplies the gas, swung into action after it detected damage to a section of pipeline in Chandivli on Wednesday night. “We repaired the damage and restarted the supply close to midnight,” a senior official said.

However, technicians learnt that water from a nearby nullah had seeped into the pipeline, due to which societies were not getting adequate pressure for the supply and the problem continued on Thursday morning.

Several residents of Eden housing society queued up outside cafes for their morning cuppa. Wednesday dinner too was out of a box. “There was no clarity on what had gone wrong with the gas supply,” said Jyoti Shah who lives in Eden-4. In many other towers too, mothers could not heat milk or pack food for their children.

Madhubanti Sharma who lives in a tower didn’t have gas supply all of Thursday and stepped out for all the meals.
