If there is an event that touches the heart of everyone in Powai and makes sure that a slice of the pie is there for a tiny toddler and an octogenarian, it is PowaiFest. Rotary Club of Bombay Powai (founded in 1991), conceptualized and actualized PowaiFest with support from Hiranandani Group. The festival has lived up to its credo: “Celebrating life, serving communities.” The event showcases Powai’s enormous potential as an art, cultural, talent and business hotspot, commensurate with its stature as a premier suburb.
The first 3 editions of PowaiFest in 2014, 2015, and 2016, were landmark events in Mumbai and featured various art & cultural events, sports & talent contests, celebrity performances, etc. The events had huge participation not only from Powai-ites but from Mumbaikars across the city. The spectacular events saw the participation of renowned personalities from music, art & theatre too.
SURYATHON AT POWAI
January 15th, 2017 | 7 am – 8:30 am | Hiranandani Foundation School Grounds (old)
The sun sets northward on this day,
While it shines, let’s make hay.
The planets this day portend good,
Shammi’s Yogalaya has time’s test stood.
Let’s all join her for Suryanamaskar,
We’ll be glad our health is on par.
Twelve postures simple and easy,
Will make us strong, we’ll never go queasy.
January 15, is a very auspicious day in the spiritual calendar. In India, the day marks the shift of the sun into ever-lengthening days when the sun begins its northward journey. The night becomes shorter and the day longer. The day marks the change of season and is also a very important date in modern astronomy and Vedic astrology.
Let us celebrate this auspicious day with 108 surya namaskars (sun salutations) and make it an integral part of our daily routine. Suryanamaskar is a series of twelve postures, which stretches and flexes the complete spine, works on the arms and the legs and particularly covers each and every part of the body, organs, muscles and glands.
Performing 15 minutes of suryanamaskar alone in the morning can bring the energy and vitality of the Sun in you.
