It Tata Group chairman emeritus Ratan Tata today personally drove to meet Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray at the latter’s Krishna Kunj residence in north-central Mumbai. They were together for about 90 minutes.
They were said to have discussed their collections of books, paintings and CDs over a cup of tea and Maharashtrian cuisine. Pet dogs — both have these —also came up for discussion. Politics, it appears, did not figure at all during the conversation, entirely in English. Raj’s wife, mother and son were also present.
The meeting was on the eve of MNS’ anniversary day. They met after eight months; Raj had then visited Bombay House, the Tata headquarters. At that time, Tata had promised to visit Krishna Kunj.
An MNS leader who was present at the meeting told Business Standard: “Both were informal (and informally dressed). Tata said after his retirement in December last year he was devoting some time for policy making and for social causes.” And, he was said to have praised Thackeray’s passion for art. At the parting, it seems, there was another promise on both sides to meet again.
