Bande Utakal Janani ….Janani… the official song of Odisha was sounded at a louder voice in Mumbai on April 1st as Utkal Divas was celebrated at different places in Mumbai.
Govt of Odisha celebrated Utkal Divas at Odisha Bhawan, Vashi. Mumbai Utkal Samiti celebrated the day at Utkal Hall in Kurla (W). The Odisha foundation day was also celebrated at IIT-Bombay, Powai, Navy Nagar in Colaba, NAD Colony in Kanjurbag.
At Odisha Bhawan in Vashi, Surendra Nath Naik, vice-chairman of planning board of Odisha, attended as a chief guest and Justice BK Mishra, judge of Odisha High Court, attended as a guest of honor. Surendra Naik reminded the audiences about the glorious historical period of ancient Odisha i.e. Kalinga period. He reminded how Chanda Ashok transformed into Dharma Ashok, and the bravery and Rajdharma of Emperor Kharvela.
Justice Mishra in his address emphasized that communication is a key for achieving success in social life. So, Odia brothers and sisters living outside Odisha should have proper communication and connective channels. He expressed happiness about the fellow feeling among Odias living in Mumbai. Presiding the function, Odisha Bhawan ARC-cum-Manager KN Biswal highlighted the benefits and accommodation facilities available to Odias especially cancer patients at Odisha Bhawan, Vashi, Mumbai.
Cultural programs were organized by the Govt of Odisha on this occasion. Angahara Nrutyayana presented the traditional Odishi and Sambalpuri dance on this occasion.
At the end of the meeting, prominent Odia citizens staying in Mumbai were felicitated by the the guests: Kananika Tripathy (president BOWA), Ram Prasad Muduli (industrialist and founder of JJLT trust), and Bhagwan Panda (president MOWA), Surendra Nath Mohapatra (president Biswa Odia Mahasangha, social activist). More than 700 Odias had presence on this occasion. At the end of the function, all Odias had a dinner and tasted the traditional Odia foods.
Bombay Utkal Samiti, which manages Mumbai Utkal English Medium School, celebrated Utkal Divas at Utkal Hall, Kurla (W). Further, Odisha foundation day was celebrated at IIT Bombay, Powai, Navy Nagar Colaba, and NAD colony Kanjubarg.
