A 22-year-old site supervisor was arrested by the Powai police on Sunday in connection with the murder of a 7-year-old boy Shamsunder Bind.
Investigations revealed that child knew about Samshuddin N Ansari’s attempted advances towards the boy’s mother.
“The child learnt about the advances and was going to tell his father about it. Ansari got scared and killed the boy,” said Bajirao Bhosale, senior police inspector, Powai police station.
Bind’s body was found on the second floor of the under-construction Parijat Towers, located on Saki Vihar Road
where his father Raj works as a watchman.
Police said the boy had been hit with a hard object on his neck by Ansari, which was the cause of his death. Ansari later strangulated the boy with
a rope and had left the rope tied on the body.
He left the rope tied around the boy’s neck to pass it off as a suicide. Bind, a Class 1 student at Shivam Vidya Mandir School, had returned home from school around 6pm on Thursday. He then went out and did not return. When he was still missing at 10.30pm, his father approached the Powai police and filed a missing person complaint. Around 1am on Friday, a labourer found Bind’s body hidden under wooden planks with a rope tied around his neck.
The post mortem reports revealed that the boy had not been sexually assaulted.
Four other watchmen live in the basement of the building with their families. Bind’s family that originally hails from UP and has been living and working in the city for a few years.
