Food writer Tarla Dalal, whose became a household name for her vegetarian recipes, died after a heart attack in Mumbai on Wednesday, said a local Mumbai daily and the chef’s Facebook page. Dalal was 76.
Dalal was the author of around 100 cookery books and also hosted a popular TV show.
The news of her death was first announced on Twitter but doubts were raised about its veracity. Later, a newspaper in Mumbai and then the chef’s Facebook page confirmed her demise.
“We would like to thank all of you for your support and affection through the years of Mrs. Tarla Dalal’s career. She is no more with us as she expired in the early hours of this morning. We thank her for all the happiness that her talent has given to us and our families…” said a message on Tarla Dalal’s Facebook page.
