The BMC has issued a notice to the Maharashtra State Angling Association (MSAA), asking it to remove 17 houseboats that are being operated in the Powai lake illegally.
“If they do not remove the houseboats by Tuesday, the BMC will take them out of Powai lake,” said a senior civic official.
On Friday, when the BMC official went to serve the notice to MSAA, its office-bearer reportedly did not accept it. On Saturday, the BMC official stuck a copy of notice at the MSAA office. The BMC’s hydraulic engineering department has allowed MSAA to take boats to the lake only for fishing purpose and not for commercial usage. Following a complaint by MNS corporator Avinash Sawant that the boats were being used for commercial purpose, the BMC issued the notice.
This is the fourth notice issued to MSAA in the last one year for the same violations.MSAA secretary Ali H Hussaini said they had received the notice. “We will reply to the BMC on Monday. There were no illegal operations going on. The boats were just used for angling,” said Hussaini.
