Pillion rider escaped with minor injuries. Driver detained for questioning.
A 26-year-old man was killed after he came under the wheels of a BEST bus when his bike skidded off a freshly silted road at Sakinaka junction, around 10 pm on Wednesday. His friend who was riding pillion escaped with minor injuries. The driver of the Ghatkopar-bound bus has been detained.
Ajay Pandey fell off his bike and on to the road, after which his head was crushed under the wheels of the bus.
The bus driver stopped the vehicle when he heard people screaming, but it was too late. Pandey died on the spot. His friend, Ashish Mandre, was rushed to RajawadiHospital with injuries to his hand. Pandey’s body was also taken to the Rajawadi mortuary where a post-mortem will be done today.
Pandey was a resident of Tunga village in Powai and owned a pan shop. He visited Andheri to buy products for his shop. On Wednesday, he went to Andheri for the same purpose. The incident happened when he was returning home.
“The main road is being re-constructed, due to which there was sand on it. There was a broken helmet at the spot, but we are not sure whether Pandey was wearing it or it was hung on the handle. We will record Mandre’s statement to clarify facts. The bus driver has been detained for questioning,” said an officer from Sakinaka police station.
