The Powai police had a tough time on Wednesday after a history-sheeter, arrested for allegedly molesting a housewife, banged his head against a windowpane in the police station and ran amok in an attempt to escape from custody.
The accused, Zuber Pathan (30), a resident of Powai, was caught when he went to settle a score with a woman who tipped off the police of his arrival from his hideout to meet his family for Eid celebration. The incident took place around 12 noon. But he was soon overpowered by senior inspector Y L Jadhav who rushed out of his cabin on hearing commotion from the first floor detection room in the police station. “Pathan was abusive. He even attacked a few cops with a shard and ran downstairs. He could have easily escaped if I have not risked because others were unable to go even near to him,” Jadhav told TOI.
“Pathan was brought to the police station around 8.30am after he was caught attacking a woman informer. He was on the run for the past 15 days after he barged into a homemaker’s house in Powai and molested her in front of her husband,” said the police.
Pathan is wanted in several cases of assault, molestation and theft.
“He has created havoc in the locality at Pathanwadi in Filterpada, Powai. Locals complained that Pathan had misbehaved with women,” said a police officer.
The accused was booked for assault, trespass and outraging the modesty of a woman. Further, charges of assaulting the cops on duty and damaging government property have also been slapped on him. He was produced before the Andheri court on Thursday and was remanded in 15 days’ judicial custody.
