Renowned ENT surgeon Dr Lakhumal Hiranandani died on Thursday evening due to various age-related ailments. He was 96-years-old, and had been admitted in Powai’s HiranandaniHospital for the past one month.
Who was Dr LH Hiranandani?
Dr LH Hiranandani came to Bombay in 1937 to study medicine. His work there was so good that his teachers helped him financially to send him abroad to pursue further studies. His contribution to the field of medicine bagged him the Padma Bhushan in 1972. He was also the chairman of the Hiranandani Foundation and his three sons have have made Hiranandani one of the most well-known names in the construction business.
Dr Hiranandani’s contribution to the field of healthcare
He was instrumental in setting up an ENT department in Topiwala National College, Mumbai. These were the first of its kind.
He also had a unique method of operating referred to as ‘Dr Hiranandani’s Operations’
He was appointed in the advisory committee for setting up of private medical colleges by the Indian government. Through his efforts, 14 private medical colleges were set up in the country. He was instrumental in increasing the retirement age for teachers from 58 to 65.
A lot of his academic works were published in Indian and foreign journals.
