Wednesday being the last day to deposit earnest money, 88,921 Mumbaikars will vie for 1,244 houses — 71 for each — in the annual MHADA lottery this year.
The number of applicants was 75,987 till Tuesday, when acceptance of forms was stopped, but increased after MHADA allowed people another day to make earnest money deposit.
“We will start entering data in the lottery software on May 24 and later scrutinise all applications. We will send SMSes to all applicants — eligible and ineligible — on May 26 and also post a list on our website,” MHADA spokesperson Hemant Patil said.
He said ineligible applicants would be given a day to appeal.
“We will conduct a dry run of the lottery on the 28th and seal the software the next day. The lottery would be held as always on May 31.”
MHADA has received Rs 150.84 crore as earnest money deposit.
However, officials said the response this year was poor as the houses being sold were high-priced. The most expensive are a set of 450 tenements in Tungwa, Powai, at Rs 75.22 lakh each.
Last year, MHADA had received 1.31 lakh applications for 2,593 houses.
