Powai police has started the procedure to call back the US national, who registered a fake FIR saying he was assaulted and robbed in Mumbai, so that he could return home. They have asked the global IT services and solutions company, where he worked, to call him and will also issue a legal notice to them in this regard.
David Parish (51) worked as a project manager with L&T InfoTech and had landed in Mumbai from Texas on January 13. The next day, he told the police that he was attacked by three motorcycle-borne robbers while he was jogging around 6.30 am, police said.
David further said one of the robbers attacked him with a sharp weapon on his back. After registering an FIR, he flew back to the country the same night.
Police now claim David concocted the entire episode because he wanted to go back to the US. An official said the CCTV footage from the Ramada Hotel, where he was staying, was thoroughly examined, after which the investigators began doubting his theory. The footage showed David taking a knife to his room.
“He did not come out of the hotel before 6.30 am. In fact, he had breakfast and remained inside his room. We also recovered a blood-stained fork, a butter knife and tissue papers from his room. It is clear that he himself inflicted injuries on his back,” the official said The police have recorded the statements of the company officials. Senior police inspector YL Jadhav said, “We are calling him back and will investigate further. It seems to be a case of fake complaint. If found guilty, we will take action against him.” Cops plan to file a B summary report after questioning him.
