The Powai police has arrested Bimal Mehta, owner of Human Helping Hands in, a recruitment agency for drivers, house help and watchmen for allegedly not verifying the credentials of a house help before the latter was employed at a businesswoman’s Powai residence through the agency. The police said that the house help, identified as Ganesh Landge, was recruited at 56-year-old Sushma Khemka’s flat at Hiranandani Gardens on July 10. Landge’s job was to take care of Khemka’s husband, Vijay, 61.
“On July 16, Landge stole a gold chain worth Rs. 51,000 from Vijay and fled the house. We learnt that Landge was hired through Human Helping Hands. When we checked with the agency, it was revealed that Landge had submitted fake documents to them and the agency had not bothered to verify them,” said an officer from the Powai police.
The police said that Landge, who is still absconding, is wanted at various police stations in the city for similar thefts.
