Football shines on a damp and rainy day

A bus breakdown, non-stop showers and goals galore – it was all in a day’s work for MSSA’s inter-school kids at Azad Maidan.

The way it rained yesterday, it looked like the second day of MSSA under-16 football would be washed away. However, the excited kids were not disappointed as all matches went on as per schedule.

St Mary’s SSC became the first casualty of the day losing their opener to Jamnabai Narsee 1-0. Later, Christ Church shocked St Francis D’Assisi 3-1 and Bombay Scottish defeated St Lawrence (Borivali) 2-0.

St Lawrence were not at their best, and the difficulty they faced in reaching Azad Maidan may be the reason for that. The team was forced to travel to the ground in public transport after their team bus broke down. “Our bus broke down at Marine Lines, forcing us to take the public transport,” said St Lawrence coach Louis Fernandes.

The coaches, meanwhile, were all praise for the MSSA and the ground’s effective drainage system. “The ground has been well maintained and therefore the boys did not face any problem while playing in the heavy rainfall,” said Fernandes.

The coaches were satisfied with MSSA’s arrangements related to the first aid facility provided to the players.
